Illuminated keyboard: Works in darkness
In an illuminated keyboard, back-lighting gives keys greater visibility under low-light conditions. The use of such a keyboard makes the use of task lighting that can add glare totally unnecessary. An illuminated keyboard is convenient for those who prefer to use their home computers at night using the monitor as the only source of light. Switching on an extra light can create disturbing glare and raise eye sensitivity, while using just the monitor light to locate the keys can fatigue your eyes. An illuminated keyboard is the solution, not only at home but also for multimedia presentations in darkened halls.
There are various types of illuminated keyboards in which designs and mode of back-lighting are different. Some of them have transparent or semi-transparent tops and keys with black lettering. An electroluminescent pad is placed beneath the top. In daytime, the keyboard is used normally and looks like a standard keyboard. Another type resembles the backlit keys on a cell phone pad. This variety might be black with lettering that seems white in daylight, much like a standard keyboard. Individual LEDs sit under each key cap. When switched on, only the individual letters on the keys seems to be backlit.
Illuminated keyboards are available in standard sizes of 101+ keys and in mini sizes of 83+ keys. Their prices depend on the quality, features and style. The price of an illuminated keyboard can be anything from US$25.00 to US$120.00 depending on quality.
